My name is Mathew Whitehouse, and I am the founder of Sponsor Matty.
I was born in West Bromwich, West Midlands, and have spent my life in the heart of the Black Country. Growing up in the region gave me a strong work ethic, a sense of community, and an appreciation for helping others whenever possible.
Today, I still live in the West Midlands and work as an Intercity Coach Driver for Travel Star European, operating services on the National Express network. My role sees me travel the length and breadth of the United Kingdom, connecting towns, cities, airports, and communities while helping thousands of passengers reach their destinations safely each year.
Before joining Travel Star European, I built a career in the transport and logistics industry. I worked as a UK and European HGV Driver for WSH Logistics, operating throughout the UK and mainland Europe. During this time, I transported a wide variety of goods across long distances and gained valuable experience travelling internationally.
My career has also included roles in logistics, passenger transport, and professional driving, giving me extensive experience of the UK’s road network and helping me develop the resilience, discipline, and determination that now play a major role in my fundraising challenges.
My Passion for Travel and Adventure
For most of my working life, I’ve travelled for a living.
Whether driving across the UK, travelling through Europe, or exploring new places in my own time, I’ve always enjoyed the sense of adventure that comes with being on the move.
Over time, that passion developed into a love of walking, hiking, and challenging myself outdoors.
What started as occasional walks and days out gradually became bigger goals, longer distances, and more ambitious challenges. Eventually, I realised I could use those challenges to support a cause that truly makes a difference.
That’s when Sponsor Matty was born.
